Did summer have you spending more time at the lake than at the gym? It’s time to Fall Back Into Fitness! Fall can also be a great time to work on your goals and get back in the groove before the holidays.
One of the most unique fitness opportunities at the YMCA is our group fitness classes. The diversity of group fitness classes can also help improve your fitness by keeping your body guessing and helping you avoid plateaus. A study published in the Journal of Social Sciences found that participants gravitate towards the exercise behaviors of those around them. In other words- peer pressure CAN be positive! A 2016 study published in the journal Obesity found that overweight people tend to lose more weight if they spend time with healthy friends, and the more time they spend together, the more weight they lose!
Despite all these benefits, though, it can still be intimidating to walk into an hour-long group fitness class for the first time. That's why our YMCA is putting together a sampler which will allow the public an opportunity to visit the Y and try a variety of group fitness classes for free.
Non-members who attend can enter to win a free 3-month membership and any members who bring a friend will be entered to win a prize. Joining fees will be waived the entire month of September.
